Squalene

What it is
Squalene is a naturally occurring lipid that is also found in the skin's own surface oils. In skincare, it works as an emollient to help soften, smooth, and support comfortable-feeling skin.

Why we use it
We use squalene to help replenish softness and improve the feel of dry, depleted skin. It can work alongside squalane and other nourishing lipids to give a formula a silky, comfortable finish without feeling heavy.

Why it's considered safe

Good to know
Squalene and squalane sound almost identical, but they are not quite the same. Squalene occurs naturally in the skin, while squalane is a more stable form commonly used in cosmetics. Some thoughtfully formulated skincare may contain one or both depending on the needs of the formula.
